Meet Jonny, our Communications Intern

La Choza Chula recently took on Jonny Velasquez Figueroa as our new Communications Intern, working a few afternoons a week in the La Choza Chula office. After graduating last year the La Choza Chula identified Jonny as someone with enormous potential, especially in his desire to learn English and computer skills. Jonny was then hired to work alongside our Communications Director and Sales & Marketing Intern to learn various aspect of La Choza Chula’s communications programme with a view to him taking on a much larger role in the future, empowering local community members to be key members of staff in the La Choza Chula team. Here Jonny talks a little bit about his history and time here so far at La Choza Chula:

Hello, my name is Jonny Velasquez Figueroa and I want to tell you a little about my story. I finished high school last year at the secondary school (Basico) of El Paredón Buena Vista. I have been studying in the Basico for the last 2 years and I leave with so much learnt. At Basico I was able to use a computer lab and a permaculture garden where I learned about how to grow tomatoes, chili, cabbage among others and also attend several permaculture events where I learned about the seeds and the creation of gardens. Having a computer lab in our institute was not something simple to achieve, but thanks to the organization La Choza Chula it was possible to have a garden and computer lab.

After finishing high school I took the decision to work for La Choza Chula where now I learn even more, being taught how to use programs like InDesign, Photoshop and more. My position in La Choza Chula is about communicating through social networks to people to show what La Choza Chula has achieved. Being a employee of La Choza Chula has helped me as I have been learning so many new things. I have learned to use the digital camera and programs that I did not know and of course being here I learn English. Learning English is one of my dreams and being surrounded by people who speak it helps me a lot. Being a member of La Choza Chula team is great you have fun and you learn a lot. Thank you.

La Choza Chula recientemente se enfrentó a Jonny Velasquez Figueroa como nuestro nuevo interno de comunicaciones, trabajando unas pocas tardes a la semana en la oficina de La Choza Chula. Después de graduarse el último año de La Choza Chula identificó a Jonny como alguien con un enorme potencial, especialmente en su deseo de aprender inglés y computación. Jonny fue contratado para trabajar junto a nuestro Director de Comunicaciones y Interno de Ventas y Mercadeo para aprender varios aspectos del programa de comunicaciones de La Choza Chula con el objetivo de que asuma un papel mucho más importante en el futuro, empoderando a los miembros de la comunidad local para ser miembros clave del personal en el equipo de La Choza Chula. Aquí Jonny habla un poco sobre su historia y su tiempo aquí hasta ahora en La Choza Chula:

Mi nombre es Jonny Velasquez Figueroa y contare un poco sobre mi historia. Termine la secundaria en el Basico del Paredón Buena Vista,  Estudiar en el Basico los últimos 2 años me dejo muchas experiencias mi aprendizaje fue mas elevado ya que contaba con un laboratorio de computación y un huerto de permacultura donde aprendí sobre como cultivar tomate, chile, repollo entre otras y tambien asiste a varios eventos de permacultura donde aprendí sobre las semillas y la creación de huertos. Tener un laboratorio de computación en nuestro instituto no era algo sencillo de lograr, pero gracias a la organización La Choza Chula fue posible tener un Huerto y Laboratorio de computación.

Luego de terminar la secundaria tome la desición de trabajar de la organización La Choza Chula. donde ahora aprende aún más estoy aprendiendo a usar programas como InDesign, Photoshop y mas. Mi puesto en La Choza Chula es sobre la Comunicación comunico mediante las redes sociales a las personas lo que La Choza Chula ha logrado. Ser Voluntario de La Choza Chula me ha estado ayudando he estado aprendiendo nuevas cosas, he aprendido a usar la Camara Digital y programas que no conocía y claro estando aquí aprendo ingles y ese es uno mis sueños aprender el ingles en un 100% y estar rodeado de personas que lo hablan me ayuda mucho, ser miembro del equipo de La Choza Chula, es genial te diviertes y aprendes.
